The BC Coroners Service is recommending Transport Canada require all passengers and crew aboard commercial floatplanes wear life jackets during every stage of a flight.
It seems that the biggest issue was actually being able to escape the downed aircraft. i can't imagine how wearing a life jacket would improve your odds of getting out. Probably make it substantially harder.

Warning - I am not an expert on anything having to do with this forum, but that won't stop me from saying what I think.
That would be true for non-inflatable life vests common on small boats, but the inflatable vests common on airliners and military survival vests are low profile until you inflate them. You should never inflate them while inside the aircraft.
