I like an ax and a smaller knife too. I keep a full size ax in my car and a small hand ax will travel with me on longer hikes. Just now I'm working on putting a handle on a new 4 3/8 inch mora blade I bought. When I'm done with it, it'll be my commonly carried knife (probably not EDC, more like everyday I spend hiking).

I might not always carry a huge knife, but I'll always have my lighter knife on my belt and a smaller ax does the jobs a big knife does far easier.
