I've found a cheap way of making a scraper for those blocks of magnesium that are sold for making fires . Go to our local hardware store, purchase the following supplies . single edge razor blades the heavy duty box knife type, plumbers putty, and medium size eye hole screws. Mix the putty together and place it round the top of the razor blade and it should come down half way of the razor blade , take one of the screws that you bought and place it into the putty and surround it with the putty. Set this aside to harden . When the putty has hardened take a grinding wheel and round off the points of the blade so as not to poke you or cut your clothing.
Take some duct tape or a chain and place it with your magnesium block and you'll have a cheap and fairly decent means of scraping and using the flint side of this tool. And there buy saving you knife for more important things .
