Depends a lot on where you live. Carrying a fixed blade in the wilds of Los Angeles will get you lots of stares, but won't in Alaska. I carried a fixed blade a lot last summer while driving all over Canada and Alaska, and no one even gave it/me a second glance (unless they wanted to fondle my Randall).
