Try washing it with a solution of warm water & baking soda. Let it soak for a while (~30 min or so) then rinse with a mild (1T/L) vinegar/water solution. Finish with a plain water rinse and then see if any foul taste remains. You may need to do this cycle 2 or 3 times but it will get rid of any nasty, rubbery taste.
