I agree entirely. But you have to remember that the reason for the increased visible security was to reassure a terrified public that air travel was safe. In the wake of 9-11-2001 nobody was flying. The American economy simply could not withstand that kind of fear of flying. Not only the airlines would suffer, but every sector of an already depressed economy would hemmorage money.

Like it or not, it worked. People got back on the planes. In droves.

I personally would be more confident if I had my handgun, or at least a knife, on board. But you can't please everybody.
