I don't mind them as much as some people. I don't trust the lock on any folder, so I assume they could fail and use them accordingly.

I find that closing the handles on a Leatherman provides enough safety for me. It's certainly safer than a SAK, since it can't actually close on your fingers. I once modified the fine edge blade on an original Supertool to defeat the lock (which had a very good lockup, but was a pain to close).
