I've recently heard about the Grayl Geopress. I've only done a bit of research but here's what I've found:

  • Fast -- they claim 8 seconds of pushing down to get 24oz of water through the filter
  • Unlike most other filters I've used, it has some capacity to remove chemical and heavy metals contamination, in addition to pathogens
  • The bottle looks well made and easy to operate
  • Very spendy -- $90 for the bottle, and $30 for replacement filters every 250L or 3 years after first use.
  • As far as I know, I don't know anyone who's used it

I carry a Sawyer Mini and think very highly of it for efficacy against pathogens and cost. It isn't as easy to set up to use as the Grayl seems like it would be, but it's easy enough for me.

My usage profile isn't a great fit for this given the cost and the sorts of outdoors activities I am usually doing.

Anyone hear know more about these?
