I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but why take the risk? Simply store them apart.

I don't think I have ever seen cautions about storing compasses next to one another, or inside an iron box.

I have tossed the same compass into a variety of environments for at least twenty years, and I have seen no adverse effects...
