I've used similiar ringbolt hitching on mini-biners. I tied it using gutted paracord, and glue dipped (1/1 mixture of Titebond II and water) it to give it rigidity. No finishing knot is needed because of the glue dip.

In my experience, Ringbolt hitching, Coxcombing, and Keckling (bight hitching) are excellent ways to cover curved handles and grips.
