Not knowing your technical level, I suggest the following.

Disconnect the antenna and listen to the noise level. Connect the antenna, the nose level should increase. If no change perhaps the radio is not configured correctly (attenuator on etc.) or there is a circuit problem.

If the noise level changes, listen for the standard time broadcasts on 2.5, 5, 10, 15 MHz. They are very strong on at least one of those frequencies, depending on propagation.

If this fails, find a ham and ask for help. You could spend hours messing about and miss a switch or control in the wrong position.
