I don't even like tea in a paper cup, much less a styrofoam one.

Plastic and tea don't mix to well, but the biggest difference in preparing a decent cup of tea is the quality of the water. You may find in surprising but you cannot make a decent cup of tea in the majority of the geographical locations throughout England due to the hard water. The water has to be boiling and the teapot preheated so as to not reduce the water temperature. Loose tea is preferred but the difference using tea bags is really quite minimal. The higher quality teas will always be loose leaf.

For field use a titanium cup is preferred as this will not affect the flavor when preparing a tea bag.

You cannot make a decent cup of tea using an MRE Beverage bag. Coffee seems to have a little more leeway with regard to plastic cups.

Never buy instant tea. It is disgusting.
