Well, it's not an inconceivable scenario. Predators are smart enough to use cliffs to advantage.

In the Rocky Mountains, golden eagles are known to vigorously harass mountain goats and sheep on steep slopes and cliffsides, hoping that one will panic and lose its footing ... and that makes an easy meal.

As for the rest, that's just how television works. This sort of thing would have been scouted beforehand. It's insanely expensive to have television crews wandering around hoping to luck onto something worth shooting.
