I learned about trajectory, Kentucky windage, etc by shooting buttons leaning against the wall in the next room in my mom and dad's basement with a Rough Rider BB gun. You could follow those BB's from the time they left the barrel until they hit the target. It's a dang miracle I didn't put my eye out. I probably shot 20,000 or more BB's out of that gun over the course of several years.
