Although the thought of outdoor survival classes appeals to me, I am having a tough time getting 4-5 consecutive days off work. As I am big fan of self directed study (aka studying on your own), I was wondering if anyone has seen a "survival syllabus" or would contribute some topics they would cover to come up with a list of skills/knowledge one should cover maximize their chance of survival should they need it. What I would love to do is take every Sat or Sunday and go out into the woods to practice. I would have no problem buying 'required reading' too.

Since I guess it would impact what I should learn, I do most of my hiking/backpacking in the mountains west of Boulder, CO.

Thank you!
