There is no reason why your axe shouldn't;t be as sharp as your knife, I recently read somewhere that you can use you axe for everything you use your knife for. wait found it!! go down to the near bottom of this site and you should find a file called Woodsmanship (1954)" and like on one of the last few pages there is a thing about knives and how and axe can replace them.
