RED CLIFF — An Iowa man survived a 300-foot fall in his car, only to die hours later when he walked off a 100-foot cliff, the Vail Daily News reported.

The accident occurred around Sept. 30, but authorities on Sunday released the name of the victim, Justin Parker, 25, of Ames, Iowa.

Parker was driving toward Red Cliff on U.S. 24 when he lost control of his car, Sgt. Greg Daly of the Eagle County Sheriff's Office told the Vail newspaper. The Ford Focus skidded 300 feet down an embankment.

The car was discovered upright on Sept. 30, with footprints leading away from it. A crew in a Colorado Air National Guard helicopter later spotted Parker's body at the bottom of the cliff.

A memorial service was held Saturday for Parker, an Iowa State University student and real estate agent, Eagle County Deputy Coroner Mike Kerst told the Vail Daily.
