Agree, depends on the focus, Survival or E&E. If both, evasion should be your first priority and will probably preclude making a fire to cook anything.

When I went through the Navy SERE school 30 years ago we did survival first with no evasion work at all. When we got to the final phase (E&E) we started 4 days hungry and it was guaranteed we'd get captured or (as in my case) turn myself in at the final checkpoint on the evasion course. I have a feeling the rules have changed a whole lot since I went through, but not getting captured should still be a high priority. How can your kit help in not getting captured?
