There is an article in this month's edition of Popular Mechanics titled "Facing Down Disaster" (pgs. 56-71), that discusses natural disasters such as blizzards, etc. It includes tips on planning, things to look out for, and some of the items to have on hand, as well as an emergency preparedness checklist that folds out of the magazine. Not the most comprehensive article, but a good start, with little blurbs about people who survived natural disasters, as well as their (limited) advice.
