I am going to start sailing on the Western Rivers probably within the next several days. In regards to this change in my area of operations, I am adding/subtracting the following to/from my BoB:

1) Adding state road maps and aviation VFR charts for Missippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky. These will cover the areas that I will be having to cross in case Bugging Out becomes necessary. I may still have to add more maps but I'll wait and see what else I may require.

2) Dropping my "Food Tube" (6 LBS weight) since the areas that I will be crossing (in the event I have to Bug Out towards home) will be more populated and with more easily available food and water supplies.

3) During winter, I will have to carry approximately 10 LBS of additional winter gear.

Does anybody have suggestions of additional considerations that I may be missing. Yes, I am an expert "scrounger".

As many of you had suggested, I got a large Rucksack (Austrian Army) with a good sized "Fanny Pack" that actually attaches to the shoulder straps and hangs under the rucksack. (It's a little funky looking but it seems like it will work well)

I have packed all of the rations from the "Food Tube" into the Fanny Pack. The rations and other equipment that was in the backpack before is in the Rucksack now, with plenty of room to spare.

I am keeping the ability to "sling" some equipment although the primary plan is to carry those items in the ruck.

I will still carry the messenger bag with water bottles, licenses, log, maps, VFR charts, etc.

My long range BoB now weighs approximately 33 LBS. I will still have to depend on my "scrounging" abilities to stay supplied with food and water, and to increase my capabilities as I go (can you say bicycle, weapons, etc.)

Austrian Army Rucksack and fanny pack---$28.00 + 8% sales tax

That is the pack and fanny pack that I just got from an Army Surplus Store here in sunny, muggy, south Lousy-anna.

Not sure if it is the same, but it's listed as an Austrian Army Rucksack:
