I'm taking a 3-day guided canoe trip on the Okefenokee Swamp in GA next month. Aside from the usual survival gear, is there anything swamp-specific I need to take? I'm looking into some waterproof boots and a decent rain poncho.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

If you are sleeping on a platform, free standing tent with good netting, if you are doing the other thing, good hammock with netting. If the guides provide for sleeping, disregard the above. Head net. I don't know that the weather is like in GA in April, but be prepared for high humidity anyway (which will mean that you will get just as wet under that poncho as without it...

I looked into the Okefeneokee NWR site, and found this about weather. They also had this recommended gear list...

Chain mail and Duct Tape.

You know how metal gives you that funny feeling when you bite it? If it does the same to the alligator, it may let go. If it does, grab the duct tape and wrap it around his jaws (or muzzle, whatever). They have a gripping power of 3,000 psi, but it's only for clamping down, not for opening their mouth.

Leave a good fold-back tab on the duct tape... that's not the time to be fumbling.

Thanks for all the advice. I have just submitted my online order for a suit of chainmail. I tossed in a broad sword/scabbard for good measure! smile

I think we'll be sleeping on a platform, but not positive on that. Weather is warm (80-ish) during the day and 50's at night.
