Let me start with pets. I belive that the best thing is to have NO pets that depend on me. In a case of survival I have enough to worry about , just enough space in my car , enough resources ..etc. for my immediate family.

So, I have no dog, no bird, and no goldfish.

My kids are somewhat prepared to some extent. Daughter has some prep items ( plus cell phone and cash ) at all times plus a few more items ( like face masks ..etc. ) in her college locker. Younger kid ( who is a handykid) is always presented with tool-type gifts whenever he behaves well or does well in school . Other kids are not that mentally or materially prepred.

Their mom is NOT prepared at all. She will even ask me "something worng ? " if I bring two of anything from the store. I make preps for her and let her live life the way she prefers. If SHTF she will find out how much I care for her.

My dog is a self-propelled burglar alarm. When I come home, I know all is well when I see the dog is not upset about anything. He earns his keep, & is one of the family. When I'm asleep, I don't have to worry about anyone sliding in through the cellar windows. Upon his alert barks, we will stand by to repel boarders!

yea i think in certain situations dogs can prove themselves to be mans best friend , like they can hunt food for you or they can find a way home. who knows, dogs can do some things that we just cant.
im glad my dogs smart as a whip.

My pets are family. If I have to leave, they go with me. Even the 4 hens, if possible.

The pet kit is a gym-type bag. I also have 2 collapsible wire dog crates for the cats, and a carrier for the chickens.

Needless to say, I do not intend to bugout on a bicycle or motorcycle.

Extra water, 40# of kibble, and heartworm meds and I figure dog would be just fine. Heck, he would probably think that the earthquake was arranged by me personally for him just so we could have some fun camping out!
