This past weekend, my wife and her childhood friends met in Atlanta for a "mini-reunion". On Saturday I drove down and we all went to Six Flags for a day of waiting in long lines. Well, somewhere during the day, I noticed that my constant companion Surefire E2 was gone! I was Devastated! Well, to sooth my soul, I immediately fired off an order to Surefire directly and yesterday I recieved my brand new Surefire Executive ELITE E2! Well, that's the good news. The amazing news is that after telling my father this story (and he telling his friends) I got an email from a family friend scolding me for taking something like that to Six Flags! He then asked me what I would have done if I lost my Benchmade as well?!? (the NERVE!). The email ended with him saying that the little Princeton Tec Rage (I have several) is an acceptable tactical light for $14 (he works for a well known Federal Agency in a little town called Quantico as a Field Agent.) and a cheap clip folder is a good choice for traveling where loss is a likely event. Well, I was a little put back because I didn't particulary like the lecture nor the philosophy. BUT, today it all became clear. I recieved in the mail a nice little package of 4 slightly used Spyderco Delica's, two used but nice EZ outs and an old Benchmade Eclipse.
The note said " carry these instead, they cut just as well when sharp and you won't cry when they are lost. As far as giving you any flashlights for your grief, you are on your own.
I will still probably carry the best I can afford, but it was a nice gesture from a real pro.

Now we know where all those confiscated sharps at the airports end up! :-)
