A horse and rider slipped down a local canyon today. Niether was seriously hurt, but the descent through thick chapparel made additional victims likely. Yours truly made the initial descent. I had 3m vetwrap, aka self adhesive stretchable bandage wrap. Being cheap, I buy the unpopular colors; pink and orange. It made a splendid trail guide and reference for additional crew arriving late.

We carry it (orange 3M Vetwrap) in our personal first aid kits (adjunct to, I should say) in lieu of an Ace bandage. Additional uses - cut to width/length or not - are obvious to anyone who has given blood during the last several years... and I chose orange for us for the same reasons you used it today - go figure! Now, if we only had horses to go with it... seriously, it works great on knees (all I can report on so far - no, not my knees so far, Andy C.!)

I did a quick search for the product and found a hit for an Equestrin supply company. But I quickly ran into web sites purporting it's uses for taping Doberman's ears, wrapping steering wheels for motorsports and more. Trail bikers, knitters and helecopter pilots and bondage enthusiests, all have tips on how to use the stuff! Oh, what a wonderful web we live in!

Oh, now I have an "excuse" to go to Farm & Fleet! Yipee!<br><br>I usually cary an Ace bandage for my knees (I've snapped both of my ACLs). This seems to be a better solution to carry in my first aid kit as it has multiple uses (You never know when you'll run into a doberman with sagging ears).<br><br>I still find it amusing at the wide variety of applications people will find for products. I'm sure the engineers at 3M never thought that their product would become a favorite for S&M folks, but then again, maybe they knew. ;-)

Among it's other uses, I've actually even used it for ..... bandaging dogs and cats!!! We vets swear by, not at, this stuff. Be careful when bandaging, though. It's awfully easy to get the wrap too tight and cause constriction. Vet-wrap works well when gauze squares are used followed by roll gauze, then the Vet-wrap. Although it's supposed to stick to itself, a bit of white tape to secure the end is advisable, and if on a limb, a wrap or two of white tape at both ends to keep the bandage from sliding. Bondage? Now I know why black is always sold out! Peanuts warning about wrapping to tightly should be well heeded. A lady wrapped her horses tail during El Nino with the stuff ( regarding my pasture ruffians with disdain) stuffed it in a box stall with enough shavings to insulate an elephant and went to Europe. When she returned Rex the wonder horse's tail fell off at the 4th vertebrae. A little wd-40, soap and water and a few hours combing and my horses were ready for the photographers. Vetwrap should be applied SLOWLY with smooth wraps. I like to give it just a little stretch while applying and redress often.
