All this posting about what we can and cannot take onto commercial aircraft got me reminiscing. 1974 and Im enroute to my first duty station in Kodiak Alaska from Anchorage via Wien Airline. The flight attendant walked down the aisle with a Weatherby .378 to be stored in a cabin gun locker. There was the sound of cranky hydraulics and we made a low level pass over the airport on approach, went around and landed. An approaching groundcrew yelled out " Skipper that ship is grounded, wait until you see the mess" The pilot came on the intercom and sheepishly said " If any of you noticed a thumping sound, we were having trouble getting the nose gear to lock, and thanks again for flying Wein."
