Here’s a question to ask your friends, family, co-workers as we go into the cold months:

Do you own a can of lock de-icer? If so, where do you keep it?

You may be surprised how many people say, "Yes, I keep it in my glove box." Then it dawns on them...

Something to think about as we equip ourselves to survive.

Lock de-icer itself is an invention without a need. Matches or a lighter to warm up the key has never failed me with a frozen lock.

Yeah, but the warning remains. Make sure you can get to the tools you need when you need 'em. This is one of those forehead slapping, blindingly obvious things that you only notice after it's too late to fix.

Complex systems are hard to design correctly, and often difficult to debug. I think "life" qualifies as a complex system...

lock de-icer- the heel of my right boot to break up any ice, and a good hit from the mini can of WD-40 I keep in the "wallet" pocket of my jacket.

I live up in Canada where it can be down to -40 some winters
WD-40 works really well for me so does a lighter. But I think a lock de icer is still a good idea for most people.

Oh, I know about 40 below, the temp so cold that it doesn't matter which scale you use.

I'm a hard spit south of the 44N.
