Groan, can anyone sort out my link? Briefly, a man in australia wore a combination of wool and nylon and built up a static charge of 40,000 volts, causing the carpet to melt and smolder as he walked through his building. The fire department was summoned and the jacket removed for safety, being measured a few volts short of causing a spontaneous combustion <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Here's the link.

Maybe this a new fire building technique we should all learn?

Wow, a plausible explination for sponatious human combustion.

I have just the person to see if we can duplicate this phenomena.

When a man dare not speak without malice for fear of giving insult, that is when truth starts to die. Truth is the truest freedom.

The "less spun version": "His jeans had a small burn at the knee."

I can't stop laughing . . . !

I actually thought this was one of those rubbish articles full of b&%^($%t when I first read it.
So I searched through the local websites and found dozens of references to the incident.

I live 180km's from Warnambool and I didn't hear anything about it when it happened.
