I have Doug's permission to try this, so here goes...

I'd like to auction off one of my Arc AA LED flashlights to benefit ETS (and indirectly, Chris). Auction to be held on the forum, proceeds to go directly (literally) to ETS.
  • Auction starts now. Ends 23:00 (11:00 pm) Eastern Daylight Time (GMT - 4) August 12, 2005.
  • Bids are to be posted to this thread, timestamp on posts (corrected to my time zone) decide the winner. In the event of a tie, I'll go through a mysterious process involving pseudorandom number generators and a couple of lines of an Elder Language (ok, Perl, but still...)
  • Winner writes a check to ETS, mails to Doug as per the instructions in the Chris' Computer thread. When Doug tells me he received the check, I'll FedEx the light directly to the winner. I pay shipping. I'm sorry, y'all, but this is U.S. only... I don't want to try to figure out how to ship a package internationally.
  • I think the light was $40 new, so bidding starts there.

Good luck!

(I'll post a better description of the light and pics tomorrow. But if you know what an Arc AAA is, the AA is just like it, but takes an AA instead of an AAA.)

I'll open the bidding at $40.

As promised, a detailed description and pictures.

Up for auction is an Arc AA LED flashlight. Made by Arc due to many requests (demands?) from the members of CandlePowerForums.com. It has the exact same LED as in the famous Arc AAA light, but uses an AA size battery, giving much longer runtime. One major enhancement is the ability to "tail-stand", or sit upright on the tail.

These aren't made anymore, are much sought after (just check CPF), and this one's in mint condition. It was received, played with briefly and shelved (I have others in various BOBs).

Remember, this is to raise money to help buy a computer for Chris Kavanaugh. The winning bid is mailed directly to ETS, and I Fedex the light to the winner.

The following was copied from Arc's old website:
  • 20,000 MCD, 3 lumen output
  • Nichia SB2 LED
  • No bulb to burn out- uses a rugged LED
  • AA cell – no special batteries required
  • Waterproof to 100 feet
  • Type III HA Anodized Aluminum (more scratch resistant than the cheaper type II used on other flashlights)
  • ChemKote interior finish for improved corrosion resistance
  • 10 hour run time on good alkaline cell (10 hours to 50% brightness)
  • Automatic "Sun/Moon mode" (See FAQ)
  • # 3.0 inches long by 0.7inches in diameter
  • Weighs 1.3 ounces (with lithium AA)
  • Duracell AA cell included
  • Made in USA

My pictures aren't as cool as the one on the original web site, but this is the actual light you're bidding on. Each pic links to a higher res version.

If the specs are off of the "old" Arc site, then they are inaccurate. That picture is of a new Arc. The new ones are much nicer than the old ones.

No, the picture is of an old Arc AA. I'm holding it right now. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here's a screengrab showing Arc's old web page for the Arc AA.

If you're just looking at the beveled front, you're confusing this with the Arc AAA rev 4. Look at the tail... it's nothing like the new rev 4.

Thanks. Yeah, I really like my others. Bright as an Arc AAA, but with a 10 hour runtime. Makes a great keychain light. Put a lithium AA in there and it's very, uh... light. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

This light would make an excellent PSK/EDC/BOB light. Water proof to 100 ft, runs on easy to find batteries (AA). Perfect "walking around in a dark camp / house" light. I know. During the hurricanes last year, one of these was on a lanyard around my neck.

Legendary Arc quality and for a good cause. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Auction ends tomorrow night. Entire proceeds benefit ETS, free shipping to the winner.

"Built like a tank", waterproof LED light with 10 hour runtime using easy to find AA batteries. What's not to like?
