Hi folks, just found this site from an article in Guns & Ammo. Looks really interesting so far. Glad to have joined. Now my question. First let me tell you I'm no spring chicken at almost 51 years old. Anyway, I am applying for a license to carry firearms at my local Sherrif's Dept. One of THE main questions is going to be "why do you want a protection permit"? This will be the one answer that makes or breaks it whether I get my license or not. Anyone out there have a bulletproof answer that they just won't be able to resist? Any ideas besides the one answer I have would be appreciated.
Thanks, deluca in Pa.

*sighs* Wrong forum, Deluca. This is wilderness survival related information and the occasional "been there survived that" story. There are tons of forums that could answer that question better than we probably could- there used to be a couple at the NRA's site (nra.org).

In TX the DPS highway patrol gives us are CHL. I would suggest telling them that you carry valuables around on you quite often. which is true if you concider your life valuable.
God Bless

Depending on your state, the answer might not be that important. Also depending on your state, you may have to take a class first. If that is the case, the instructor might be able to tell you the best answer. Try talking to gun shops in your area, regardless of the politics, the guys behind the counter are almost always procarry. Especially ranges would have the best answers for you. Some states are "must issue," like Oregon. Other states make a big deal out of that question. You should really talk to someone from your state that knows.

Actually, the question is entirely appropriate, from an urban survival perspective. I consider my concealed carry firearm as much a part of my urban survival gear as I do my PSK for wilderness survival. This subject is a long way from "survivalism," which we don't have any interest in discussing here. If we start to develop more interest and discussion on urban survival subjects, enough to support it, I'll open another forum section. But, not until the need is established.

I do agree, however, that there may be better sources for this particular information, where there will be a larger pool of expertise.
