I saw an episode of "Tactical to Practical" on the History Channel last night. The main topic was jungle survival and there were some pretty good parts in it. Some of the technology featured included a MSR Miox Purifier and a G.I. Magnesium block. Why isn't there a show that highlights basic survival skills on TV? The Ray Mears series was pretty good, but that is out of reach for most people. Maybe I should start my own TV show......

I'd want one by Cody Lundin.

Got my vote. If his show was anything like his book, it would not only be informative, but entertaining as well.

Britain gets Ray Mears. Australia gets the Bush Tucker Man.

We get "Survivor", "Lost", and "Gilligan's Island" reruns.

Sort of tells you something about our entertainment industry, doesn't it?

there was a discovery show with Cody. I saw two episodes and that was it. It was pretty good! The people in the show were just told they were going on a hike, then Cody took ALL their gear away and got them lost and made them fight to get rescued. I liked it.

My personal favorite survival show has got to be Surviving Nugent. I wish I could be on that one.

The sad part of it is that our "entertainment" moguls make more money on the shows mentioned than English or Australian entertainment moguls do.

I saw Cody on discovery or TLC or something and I saw Nugent on VH-1. The cody one was a real survival instruction type show, with real people lost in the woods.

The Nugent show was more of Uncle Ted hazing a select group of people for a few days, but it was one of the best reality shows I have seen.

When I was still living in the UK, I used to watch both.

But not too many people remember the Bush Tucker man series, but they do remember Ray Mears.

I'd loved to know if either of these guys have any videos or DVD available. Any hints anyone?
