Cowboy Kent Rollins gives a low-cost recipe for dinner - about $1.30 per serving - and some history on the Great Depression.

That looks much like the one-pot special I whip up while car camping. Low tech, but it fills the gap.

Although these days I'm eating a lot less prepared meats like sausage, because the preservatives are really unhealthy. I chop it up very fine and use a little as a seasoning, to add flavour.

It's a belly-filler. If you don't know Cowboy Kent, he has a YouTube channel that specializes in cast iron cooking. I took his advice and got a 'StarGazer' cast iron skillet. He's getting up there, but he has a really cute young wife who makes appearances in some of his videos. Go Kent.

Haha, I looked up some images and thought "nice looking daughter you have there!" But if they're both happy it's all good. Me no judgy pants.

Cast iron has come back in a big way. A while back you could barely give away the stuff our grandparents used. Now even an off-brand frying pan commands a premium price. I have some old cast iron around, family legacy stuff. I should buff it up and season it. And watch some Cowboy Kent for inspiration.
