http://www.1sks.com/store/camping-survival-preparedness.html#458 This outfit offers Doan magnesium bars, Swedish Firesteels, Sparklites and Doug's Kit at very competitive prices with substantial discounts for multiple purchases. I haven'tdealt with them, and some dealers make up discounts with S/H. Anyone bought from them?

S/H wasn't too bad, about average I'd say.

According to their site, $8.00 for UPS ground . Got the stuff fairly quickly as well. Within a few days IIRC. (To the West Coast, Pasadena)

In addition to their survival stuff, check out their credit card knives.

I picked up the ECC-E003 European Community Cutlery Credit Card Dining Set. Comes in a clear case the size of a credit card, maybe about 3 1/2 credit cards thick total. The knife and fork are maybe 1 1/2 credit cards thickness.

The minute I pulled it out of my wallet, my brother had to have it. I've thought about picking up a few more.

If you take them out of the case, the knife and fork will fit in the bottom of an Altiods tin without taking up hardly any room.

The knife is a lot sturdier than a razor or scalpel blade.

Using the fingerholes, you could lash the fork to a stick for an improvised bout of spearfishing if you were so inclined.

Don't know what kind of metal it was, but it did say Solingen, Germany on the side of the knife.

I did one price comparison. They offer the Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) for $71.99 with a bold "Our Price!" note and with a crossed out $114.99 price implying that is suggested retail. Then I checked The Knife Center of the Internet (www.knifecenter.com). The Knife Center listed it at $53.99 and noted it was a savings of $26.05 off retail which suggests that retail is actually $80.04. By that measure the 1SKS store may be playing fast & loose with the facts. I'm not saying don't do business with them, I'm just saying to get a second opinion before spending a significant amount of cash.

I may be wrong, but I believe the owner of that website also runs www.knifeforums.com. I have heard good repsonses about this website. But of course your experience may vary, please shop around, and I'm not affiliated in any way.

Actually, it's the guy who runs bladeforums.com. I've purchased from him once or twice without incident.

Thanks for the correction. For some reason my brain said blade and my fingers said knife. <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
