Does your kit stay the same or change depending on job, season and weather?

I add or remove one or two things. Aside from refining it over the years, my EDC is the same now as it was when I lived in Dallas.

My base EDC is pocket carry, and the knife and light change depending on what I’m wearing, time of year... etc. Since a lot of my kit is stored in my truck, I can change my pocket carry as needed when I’m out and about.

My EDC is house and car keys, a PS4, small lighter,a AAA flashlight small prybar, red bandanna, wallet, cell phone, and a CC(cash capsule). This goes with me everywhere, including bed; the PS4 is sequestered for gov't offices and airlines. From time to time I will be on different projects or environments and these core items will be augmented to meet anticipated conditions.

The biggest seasonal changes for me are outerwear and footwear.

EDC when not flying:
  • Handgun and reload
  • Knife (varies based on my plans and what knife is most appealing when I get dressed)
  • Pen
  • Wallet
  • Keys
  • LM Style PS (I used to carry a PS4 but I fly too much nowadays)
  • Phone
I leave the handgun and reload behind when going into secured buildings. I also leave the knife behind (or check it) when flying. I largely do not check bags so I largely do not bring a handgun or knife when I fly.

My laptop bag is usually with me:
  • CoTCCC-based trauma kit (with decompression needle deleted for TSA compliance)
  • Booboo kit
  • Charging and data cables
  • USB battery pack
  • 120V to USB charger
  • Ham radio HT
  • Flashlights and a headlamp
  • Ritter PSP with a Heatsheets 2 person blanket
  • N95 mask
  • Small bag for water
  • Zip ties, duct tape, and a few other odds and ends
  • All manner of stuff to support my continued employment, including my laptop
Mission specific loads include:
  • Hiking bag (trauma kit, booboo kit, backup knife, multitool, water, room for food) (comes with me to outdoor ranges as well as other outdoor activities)
  • Range bag (trauma kit and range supplies)
  • Bail-out-bag (trauma kit, booboo kit, full-size handgun with reloads, rain shell, ham radio HT, phone charger, backup knife, multitool)
  • CERT callout bag
  • Computer service bag (I don't do that for a living but sometimes I do favors for friends)
  • Full-size multi-mission emergency kit, one in each car

added a kydex holder for a AA size light (Fenix e12) to the spare magazine pouch for my G43... fabricated from an old piece of kydex and heated with a long tip BBQ lighter... the basic kit does not change much over the years... just try to update with better quality equipment

I guess I can't say that I have and EVERY day carry, because I adapt to whatever I am doing, wherever I am going, time of year, etc. At the bare minimum I have fire, light, knife/multitool and phone. That is just going to the local store.

I think it is safe to say that we all have an “EDC” and that there is ‘some variation’ within certain parameters. That said anyone who isn’t flexible around that for (weather, season, location etc) isn’t truly of a preparedness mindset, as we all know, preparedness requires flexibility.

Well said.

I also add things I want to try out.
