even if the autoloader jams every other shot, it's as fast for 6 hits as the bolt action is. :-) The fact is, a decent, military style autoloader is very rugged and reliable. You are far more likely to need the fast second shot (even without combat) than you are to have the autoloader not suffice for foraging, due to malfunctions. It's going to fire the first shot, no issues at all, and normally, that's all you get in a hunting scenario. The only time that a longarm would be an issue is shtf. For other scenarios, a rental satellite phone is far more likely to help you than any longarm is. A pocket pistol will handle the sort of defensive issues likely (unless it's shtf).

These .22lr units for the AR have been around for 40 years and most guys still dont know about them, or at least, dont appreciate what a wonderful expansion of your capability that they represent. Why settle for carrying just a rimfire, or just a centerfire, when you can have either one with a 10 second parts swap? No need to spend double the money for suppressors, folding stocks, luminous sights, trigger jobs, scopes. All you need is one of each. The .22 lr conversion unit is not a gun under the law. It can be mailed to anyone.

These things suffice for 90% of your rapidfire combat practice, too, saving you 20c per shot, so they pay for themselves in a few months of training.
