Just saw this on the news - explorer Henry Worsley dies attempting unaided Antarctic crossing:

Worsley, a former British Army officer, had covered over 900 miles in 69 days. With only 30 miles to go he was unable to continue due to exhaustion and dehydration. He had to be evacuated two days later but died in the hospital due to peritonitis and organ failure.

A tragic end of an ambitious expedition, but at the same time a powerful testament to one man's courage and determination.
