I tend to agree, but with Garmin's newer high sensitivity receivers I have yet to lose signal, but I tend to avoid the high rise section of town. I was talking to a friend who works in the design of cell phones for one of the majors and she agreed that not allowing the GPS to function independently while in airplane mode is a bad design. But I'm sure there was an good idea behind that flaw.

Meantime, when I need a GPS I have a few dedicated GPS receivers to choose from depending on application. The cellphone is a tertiary back-up.

I still trust my dedicated unit more. However, when I was in Iceland it was my phone that got used because it could download local maps. My dedicated unit is quite old and I doubt I'll be buying any more maps for it.
Quality is addictive.

Solar Chargers:

Saw the other thread on the $19.00 charger.

What charger has worked well for you and your cell phone?
