I recently bought the Strike Force flint and starter from Ultimate Survival, the makers of the famed Blast Match. I am aware that the fact that it takes two hands to operate makes it a possible problem if an injury renders one hand useless. i do find it more dependable and rugged, with no moving parts to deal with, but i would like to know problems that others have had with it.

son1thousand

I have a Strike Force and like it better than my Blast Match. The one-handed use of the Blast Match is nice, but its construction underwhelms me. It looks and feels far too flimsy for my comfort, and regularly fails to stay closed. The Strike Force may indeed require two hands, but then, so do many other methods of starting fires. It also stores tinder in its handle and is very robust. Like you, I really like that feeling of rugged dependability. I have neither had nor heard of any problems with it. I think the Strike Force is a fine item. In fact, if you pack one of these for normal use and a Spark Lite kit just in case you ever break a hand or arm and actually need to start a fire one handed, you'll have both your advised multiple firestarting methods and good injury/emergency preparedness.
