Ah, I see. I can understand a switch like that if they're trying to get the country standardized. Changing all your light bulbs could be a major headache, but it might be a good push to convert all your lighting to more efficient flourescent or LED if you haven't already done that.
I am using the "light bulbs" here loosely. Lighting in my house is mixed ( tungsten bulbs, fluorscent tubes, energy saving flurescent bulbs ..etc. ). They are all 110 and all of them will need to be changed.
A voltage switch will be good even on the personal level. For example, my parents house is in a 220v area. When I need to do some handyman work there, my 110v power tools can't be used. Or, sometimes my dad visits me and he likes something in my house. I like to give it to him , but it may be 110v and cannot be used in his house. Also, when we travel to other parts of the country, we always have to think of adapters or buy special gadgets for travel. Standardizing the grid will remove this headache. And remember, as a prepper, one of my plans is to bug out to my parents house in case of disaster, it will be an advantage to have the same voltage everywhere.
