Every season there has been a couple of SARs to retrieve people making a pilgrimage to the bus. A couple of the pilgrims have died in the attempt. The locals in Healy are getting rather tired of it.

Tow the bus into town. It would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Sue gets my vote for World Ruler.

She has a knack for identifying straight-forward solutions to problems that have stymied the identified experts.

My apologies to the sheriff if this strays to far into politics, but genius must be recognized.

From another report I read the gentlemen used his GPS to follow his track back to the car and was a couple of miles from it when he was found by a SAR helo. He got the helo's attention by using the electronic flash on his camera.

So thumbs down for not leaving POP but otherwise he seems like he wasn't clueless.

Will There be a Sequel? I hope there will be a sequel. I want a sequel.

You hear about issues like this but I know a few people that have been through Blue John Canyon, in fact one was there just the week prior to this incident, and no problem.

I think a lot like Rainer or Grand Canyon, lot of people will go there, a few will encounter an accident or issue, those that are prepared usually do okay (baring instant death)

As the story relates, it looks like he also repeated Mr. Ralston's critical mistake:

Ziemann [the chief ranger] said the result could have been much worse for Richards because he went hiking alone and without telling anybody his plans.

No one knew what he was doing and he apparently he had no way to call for help.
OK, now THAT was stupid.
