Sue..I'll try to finish this up,and thank everyone for your indulgence... by the beginning of the Christmas Bombing of Ha Noi in 1972 (Linebacker II), the North Vietnamese Air Defense network was the the most sophisticated in the world...Spoon Rest A, and Bar Lock were he NATO codenames for Soviet Block target and acquisition radars used by ground controlled intercept (GCI) controllers that vectored MiG17PF, MiG19, and MiG21 fighters to our aircraft.. these were mobile facilities, typically protected by 23mm anti aircraft guns, and we tried to find them and kill them daily... the SideNet was a dipping height finder, and the Fan Song tracked and guided the SA2 surface to air missiles (SAMs)...as Radio Traffic Analysts (USAF specialty code 202)we worked intercepted communications supplied by highly trained Morse Intercept Operators (292s) and Vietnamese Linguists (203s) to extract tactical and strategic intelligence to accomplish this and other tasks..

for Bill_G with the BUFF in the avatar, on 18 Dec 72, over 200 SAMS were fired around Ha Noi alone ,primarily at the B52s... those missing their intended target would air burst at 33,000' which was the operating altitude for the B52s...we lost a lot of crews that day...
