M1951 Wool Field Trousers (pants), are they worth getting @ $30 including delivery?

That sounds like a definite good deal,as long as they're in good shape!Good wool clothing is hard to find bargains for,this side of the pond.

I have a pair that I paid ~$40US for several years ago, and I wish I had bought 3 or 4 pair. The surplus store that I bought them from has a few pair now, but none in my size and not in such good condition. The pair I own were like new and must have been in storage for 50 years.

I have worn mine a lot, hiking and casually, and they still look great. They are not extremely heavy, but tightly woven, and work great across a broad temperature range. I would estimate 30-60 degrees Fahrenheit and easily down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit with various long underwear underneath. That comfort range is guesstimated with low to moderate activity level.

The only wool pants that I have seen that are close to the quality of these have been 2-3 times the price.

One odd thing, they have a very long rise and long zipper in the fly. I guess it was more typical to wear one's trousers up high in the early 1950s. The pockets are heavy cotton duck material.

Thanks for the info. I have just ordered a single pair and will see how M1951 trousers perform (hopefully will be un-issued) as the vendors website doesn't specify. If they are un-issued then the £15 cost and £3 delivery is certainly a bargain.

It seems to be more and more difficult to find high spec woolens at a reasonable price today. I have even had trouble finding some spare Arktis D-190 Antarctica shirts as they appear to be an end of line garment. So I guess if you find a good supply of wool garments the rule is to get a few spare and vacuum seal them for storage.

I have a pair and I actually used a pair in the military back in 1967 over in Germany. I did not wear them often.
The one thing I dislike about them is that they are too heavy of a material. I used to do a lot of mountaineering and winter skiing and snowshoeing and camping. I prefered the US Army dress wool pants AG-44 model. They shed water/snow very well and they are the perfect weight fabric to be warm and comfortable. The problem is that my waist has grown a few inches and the pants are too small now.
Anyway, the M1951 wool pants are well made and a bargain at that price. They are just a bit heavy fabric, too warm perhaps. I bought mine because I can get the waist size that fits and I still search for some AG-44 wool dress uniform pants, have not found any yet in a large enough waist
