This question is only for those who own a PLB.

All - What PLB do you own?

Doug - Since you probably own an assortment of PLBs, which one do you most often take with you on a day hike or backpacking?

The new style McMurdo FastFind (I think it is the FastFind 210, but it does not say on the PLB).

I have the McMurdo Fast Find 210 which seems to have morph'd into the Kannad XS-4. I'll upgrade to the next version ACR unit when it is finally released.

I to have a McMurdo Fast Find 210 and love it. I will look into the new ACR as well when it comes out but it will depend on price, size and battery status on my fast find. I like my fast find for size and function though.

I use the older style ACR Terrafix 406 with the built-in GPS.

Would love to have a smaller one, but will continue to carry mine for a while.

Yes, but I am sworn to secrecy. But, it won't be the cheapest PLB.

I've got a Fastfind 210.

I like the ResQLink but I'll wait for the price drop which usually arrives a few months after the initial product release.

I checked the links on Falcon's post above and if those price figures hold after the ResQLink is authorized for release by FCC, I'll be all over it.

Edit: Due to the Would you attempt to walk to safety? scenario, I moved the FF 210 from my flight bag to my truck's GHB. The GHB is always in the truck so it's a good place for the PLB. It can easily be moved back to the flight bag before a flight, if I don't replace it with a ResQLink first.

Same here. I have a SPOT-2 now (I know, it's not a PLB) but I'm keeping a close eye on the ResQLink and will transition to it rather than maintain the subscription on the SPOT-2.

Others here have convinced me that it is better to carry the PLB in a pocket on my person while traveling. Doug's advice of "If it isn't with you, it can't save you" puts it in a nutshell.

Lets not be snobs here grin

While it may not (air quotes)technically(air quotes)be a PLB, I have a SPOT2.

Like Doug, I carry a FastFind 210 and will be purchasing the new ACR when it comes out. I typically carry my FastFind 210 in my leg pocket or fanny pack.

I have to admit that I'm really surprised by the number of people who own a FastFind 210 that will transition to the ResQLink when it is available. I like the smaller size and longer battery life, but if you have already made the initial investment, why take another plunge so soon?

I can understand upgrading if you are near the end of your FastFind's battery life. Those batteries are expensive. I would assume the majority of those who responded that way are gear junkies. I was some time back, but have relaxed quite a bit.

Any other serious motivation to abandon the FastFind for the ResQLink before it's useful life is over? There are those who will want two, but are any of you pawning your FastFind? Some of us always appreciate a good deal. wink
