Doug mentions in his knife selection section that with experience a bigger knife can be an advantage. I usually carrry a small Sebenza and I'm looking for a larger fixed blade for my survival kit. Should I stick with a 5" Busse Badger Attack or look to the larger (6" or 7.5") models? What do you favour as a second knife to a folder?

Andy
Steel Heart. Good balance of chopping ability, as well as still doesn't feel like a machete if you have to get some delicate work done.
Of course, the Badger PLUS the Steel Heart is a great combo too, along with your Sebe...

This is a classic question, and not just for knives. People ask," what kind of gun do I want( substitute knife, survival kit contents etc.)" Well, what do you intend to shoot, cut(or stab, slash, fillet, carve, chop, skin, scrape,or tear) and survive? Multiple knives are nice. I would no more fix my car( given the choice) with only a crescent wrench, than venture out with only one knife. But if I wasn't planning either, a crescent wrench or general knife is better than only a 1" socket or a knife to small or large. Id get a 4"-51/2" next. My present battery; Myerchin folder for marine use, 4" finnish puuko with half guard for fine work, Cold Steel SRK for general use, G.I. machete ( if I ever return to Central America),Inuit Ulu, my food processor and skinner, and finally, the most widely carried G.I. blade, a P-38.This works for me, for now. Im looking at field testing some of the larger stuff.
