My Prayers are with the families. I saw the video on the news the news this morning, truly tragic. They said the check in list was lost in the flood.

When I bought my weekend cabin property one of the locals showed me a picture taken during the 1992 floods of someone paddling a canoe through the lower field of the new property, and he said "it floods here".

When I got home I checked the survey done as part of the purchase, and the lower field is 60' (sixty feet) above the normally-dry riverbed.

Ranch Rule #1 became "Nobody is allowed in the lower field after a heavy rain".

(the cabin is a further 70' up and 50'+ above the spillway over a dam 4 miles downstream - it's safe)

I have camped at Albert Pike Recreation Area upwards of 10 times in the last few years and was there a few weeks ago. It is 6 miles north of Langley, AR, and has a paved road all the way through.

The reporting on this tragedy is a little odd. I say that because the media keeps saying Caddo Gap and Caddo River, like they are right next to Albert Pike campground. Or that the Caddo River flows into the Little Missouri River. One website reported knowing of a flash flood ?watch before 9 PM on Wednesday night. Maybe those watch bulletins are put out so frequently people just ignore them.

The Little Missouri River (empties into Lake Greeson) flows right through Albert Pike Recreation Area, which has camping on both sides of the river there and backcountry camping along the river at Winding Stairs Campground. The river is normally 2-3 feet deep and we cross it a couple of times when hiking the Eagle Rock Loop Trail.

The Caddo River (empties into De Gray Lake) flows near Caddo Gap, north of Glenwood, AR. It is about 20 miles east of the Little Missouri River.

Thanks for the link to the little Missouri data. I had tried to get there from the USGS maps but didn't see the link to the data from that station. (I obviously didn't look hard enough. lol) The Caddo link was the closest drainage I saw.
