This one is bit close to home so to speak. I have been up on Mount Currie more then once but would never go up there skiing or climbing this time of year with the high avalanche risk. This weekend, we will be on an overnight hike near the mountain but on a much lower and safer elevation. Nonetheless we still be able to see the mountain clearly during our hike and it will serve as a reminder of the power of this great mountain...which must never be taken lightly when venturing on it's expanses.

A skier was killed in an avalanche on Mount Currie near Pemberton on Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. Steve Leclair said the man was heliskiing with three others when the group was struck by a Class 3 avalanche at 2:20 p.m.

The victim was in a more exposed position and was swept over several cliff bands and buried. He was dug out by his companions but died at the scene.
