Did my damp basement on LI about 12 years ago, 3 coats white latex drylock on the walls, 4 coats gray drylock on the floor. Treated the floor with the diluted muriatic acid, wire brushed it, mopped and dried it all up. Ran the dehumidifier for a day or two and got to painting. Probably did one coat every 2 days, ran the heat a bit warm to hold about 70 degrees and keep the humidity down.

The basement still looks almost brand new, absolutely dry and virtually no wear, even in front of the workbench where I stand/sit/drag chairs all the time.

Maybe a little overkill, but worked OK for me, and as I recall, the latex drylock wasn't that expensive compared to some of the specialty floor finishes.

Please remember to follow-up with this thread once you use something.

I need to paint my basement floor to.

I have a bunch of Drylock gallon containers for the walls already.. I was thinking about using it for the floor + painting the floor ???

Martin..what a story,it's enough to make a grown man cry.a choice of guns or how much Spam to put away or what kind of sparkier to keep in your BOB shrink away to nothing in the face of hassles like that...now about that built-in book case in the up stairs hallway--might be a good time to put in a kitchen fan as i'll have access to power outlet in the crawl space---------
on second thought i'll work on some fire lighters for the lost kit.

Consider that many people pick a shade of grey that is too dark. Whatever color is picked it will look much darker when covering a basement floor. A light color will make a basement look much bigger and brighter- imho

Barns are red from the "Red Lead" paint. Lasted longer than plain old white wash. White Wash was used on homes because it helped reflect heat.

OK, now I can't make this stuff up...

M<y wife just called - one of the chickens is dead (that's OK ,we have 39 more) - it was apparently ELECTROCUTED in the hen house!

OY. The water heater malfunctioned (frayed cord) and (my bad) there's no GFCI on the henhouse lighting/water heater branch...one dead chicken, a huge PITA for me, as now I have to work in 15 degree cold/dark tonight to fix it with a GFCI.
