It still amazes me how quickly the temps can change in the mountains, especially during fall and spring!

Saturday night camping the low was probably in the low 60s and the high in the mid 80s in the sun. Tonight the low is possibly going to be in the twenties with chance of snow!

So, everyone just a reminder if you are venturing into the mountains this time of year to be prepared for hot weather and snow!

While camping we were commenting about how this year was the warmest in the last many we'd been camping at this same spot/time of year because the past two years we got snow while we were there and this year we were in shorts all year... however less than a week and it's back to how it was in the past for us.

I totally agree. I am doing a Grand Canyon hike early next month and its hard to prepare for such big weather shifts from the rim to the river. It will probably be about 35* and windy on the rim and 90*+ on the river.

Yup, I've been at the bottom end / entrance Lake Meade when it was 115 and then an hour later it was hailing on us.

Yes, indeed.

I pack fleece - tops, gloves, hats - in my teardrop trailer all summer just for the puny Shenandoahs.

Even at 3700 feet on the east coast, on a July evening you can need fleece to stay comfortable.

Shoot, even here the temperature drops 25-30F once the sun goes down. And people wonder why in the middle of summer I always keep a fleece top in my bag. That chill comes on mighty fast. You're a lucky dog Todd, the mountains are absolutely amazing and thats your back yard!

Part of the chill is the darned fog rolling in too though. When I lived in westwood, I used to joke that UCLA's "power plant" was really just a big humidifier.
