I have a North Face windstopper jacket and have had it for more than 10 years. It does stop wind, does not leak in a LIGHT rain, it does collect animal hair Desperado, and it does let out water vapor. I love it and use it all the time.

Thanks Montanero, I'll keep an eye out to see how much hair gets stuck to it.

If it is the same stuff as the jacket I have, you won't have to "keep an eye out", it will be all you notice. One of the GSD's "stole" it from the back of the couch and took it to her bed. I looked like I was wearing a German Shepherd ghillie suit, when I found it. She had it all of 15 min.

All my snowmobile outerwear gear is Windstopper. Does miracles in keeping a body warmer, allowing a person to ride with fewer layers in similar temps.

I have a Cabelas Windshear jacket that works decent but causes you to be sweaty more so then windstopper, mostly due to lack of vapor transfer.

I have synthetic fleece gloves and hats that have Gore Windstopper in them. It does it's job well. They aren't remotely waterproof but I don't recall the hats or gloves being billed as water resistant. If I need water resistance I put a hard shell over them.

Good observation. Something with lots of seams which weren't
taped would be leaky.

Gore doesn't advertise Windstopper as waterproof. They have
very strict standards for that, and as the windstopper laminate
becomes dirty its no longer works well for waterproofing.
Hence, they don't require seam taping either.

I have a jacket and a vest. I find the vest to be the most useful as a wind layer when moving and insulation under a shell when stopped to rest. The jacket tends to be too warm, for me anyway, so tends to just be used around town. They do work as advertised though, blocks wind and lets vapor out. Blocks light moisture, great on misty mornings.
