Yep.

They were all around us last weekend, and one petered out and hooked north of us last Wednesday. Listening to Skywarn (ham related weather reporting/spotting for the non-hams here) surely was interesting. Now the wife doesn't think I'm that crazy for keeping all these emergency related items in the basement.

The storms in our area (middle Tennessee) were on the night of 4-5 May. We lost a couple of trees, swingsets, and about 3 squares of shingles. Others in the neighborhood (within a couple hundred yards) had trees invading their homes. One neighbor had 24 big trees in her yard; now she has 4. We were fortunate.

I hauled away 8 pickup truck loads of limbs, wood & trash over this past weekend.

Jackson TN (a couple hours west) was hit by a reported F4 tornado, with great destruction & some loss of life. (I would've attached a photo from a co-worker's father, but I can't figure out how.)

What preparations did we make?

Weather-alert radio, plus family & friends w/same, who'll call to be sure we know. Flashlights, LED lights & Cyalumes (for the 4 year old, especially), radio (now augmented by a battery TV--it was at the office that night), plus lots of batteries. A little practice emptying the "storm closet" & getting the kids into it. And lots of prayer.

Again, we were very fortunate. Our neighborhood was one of the hardest hit in middle-TN (if TV reports are to be believed--they did live remotes!).

Anyone else a bit wind-blown?

David
