I believe the whole western world is taking this freedom of speech, actions too liberally without a dose of common sense.

It is their freedom to make any decisions, including the decision to stay. Too bad if they ignore evaucation order and realise their decision was wrong and had to paid the ultimate price and perish.

I guess we had to respected their choice if they want to prove darwin theory is right.

every time i hear about this it gets worse..the election is filling up all the news time but even the little blurbs that come with the weather channel show a huge mess and people still wandering around looking for what left of their homes..and NPR which is not prone to screw-ball reporting ran a story about HUGE areas covered with debris that dog teams are looking thru.
like i said on another post all were got up here was "cat 2--nothing to see..go home"---

While they obviously used poor judgment, I support their *right* to stay.

But I also support the idea that they made their decision and we shouldn't send people to risk their lives if they change their minds later.

It is hard to feel sorry for these folks especially since they had plenty of notice and authorities were going door to door urging people to leave. For years I have heard people from our area say that they lived through Hurricane Carla and Alicia and they can make it through anything. We have also been talking for years about a big storm coming right up Galveston Bay and cause huge damage. This is what Ike did! No one wants to see anyone forceably removed from their home but man some people are hard headed. That story also shows how some people panicked and that is what really cost them their lives.

Yeah, old Harry Truman. Pity about his cats, though.

My insurance policy has a "intentional recklessness" clause in it, or as it was explained, the "sky diving and bull fighting clause".

Given what I know and what I preach, staying around for a storm like that would qualify.

Yes, you did. There is no need to drip sarcasm.
